FAQs

Here are answers to frequently asked questions:

Q: Where is my nearest Trussell food bank distribution centre?

A: To find your nearest Trussell food bank distribution centre, visit https://www.trussell.org.uk/emergency-food, click on “Get a Food Voucher”, then type in your postcode.

Q: How do I get a referral for a food bank?

A: In order to attend a Trussell food bank, you need to get a referral from an outside organisation. If you are with a housing association, you can ask your housing officer if they are able to refer you. Otherwise, you might ask citizens advice, law centres, health centres or social work. This is not an exhaustive list.

Q: I have a referral. How long do I have to attend?

A: Please come within a week of getting a food bank referral. Visit our locations page to see when and where we are open.

Q: What is in a food bag?

A: A food bag is made up of mostly tins and other long shelf-life items. We also provide fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, toiletries and nappies when available.

Q: I have a special dietary requirement. Can you accommodate?

A: We are entirely dependent on donations. That being said, please mention your dietary requirements to your referrer and they can make a note of this.

Q: How many referrals can I obtain?

A: A maximum of six referrals can be made within a rolling six-month period.

Q: I would like to donate food/money to the food bank. How do I do that?

A: For information on how to donate to us, please visit our Give Help page.

Q: I work for an agency, and we would like to be added to your online system so we can refer people in the future. What do we do?

A: Please get in touch with us using our Contact Us form about attending a training session
